Punk Porcelain

I am partial to collecting pieces of fine china. Mismatching cups and saucers with tarnished gold rims and dusty old lady floral prints, from The Salvos.

I don’t own any porcelain with a Sex Pistols attitude. Plates which are slightly mouthy, but disarmingly charming. Saucers which flash a bit of leg and demand seconds. Perfect partners for an afternoon tea.

While I was working on it, I liked imagining who would be wearing these undergarments. Elizabeth Bennett reading impassioned letters from Mr. Darcy in her blueberry Regency stays… Laura Ingalls walking on the prairie in her apple corset… Mary Poppins in that sassy s-curve banana… ladies on the Titanic sinking in that skinny boob-to-hip constriction… me own Nan in a postwar pear girdle.

I've been nattering on this week about having lots of pots on the boil; and just as I'm about to dash off out the door to a track session, I'm catching up on podcasts, flicking through emails, stretching my calves, editing some writing, nibbling on an english muffin, tying my laces, sending a text and snooping around blogs.

The pots are positively boiling over.

In the middle of this calamity I read this:

The 'Time Wasting Experiments' are an ongoing series of letterpress prints I've been producing which document time wasted. These are in part inspired by tracking 'billable hours' but also come from the compulsion to always be doing things and producing objects. This series is a sort of audit of how I spend my time, but the prints could also be thought of as permission slips allowing you to spend a period of time in a wasteful way (maybe recontextualizing a private, shameful activities into something which one tries to get done in a set amount of time).

For all my productivity, I'm getting bugger all done.

I think the best way to shut off the urge of being 'productive', is to slip into some apathetic ennui and watch the trashiest thing I can find. Luckily for me Million Matchmaker is on tonight. Booyah.

Petrol pennies

I started a new job a few weeks ago which has been lovely, unfortunately the time it takes to drive there I can listen to:

Sufjan Steven's "Impossible Soul" (26 minutes) + Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (5:55minutes) + Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" (14:59) + The Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps" (4 minutes) = some wicked sing-a-longs and a rather hefty petrol bill by the of the end week.

While I do like driving out of suburbia with it's high density living to paddocks of horses and cows - it would also be nice to spend my petrol pennies on these goodies:

Whilst browsing through the deliciously quirky instruments on etsy, a rousing rendition of "I want it all" from High School Musical blared through my ears.

Gimme, gimme, gimme!

Framed

I'm on the hunt for picture frames, specifically something ornate and obnoxiously luxurious in style. Similar to these beauties -

I've got some sazzy japanese fabric from my lovely sister that is much too pretty to be destroyed with my feeble (insert: aggressive) attempts to fashion it into clothing.

I've also been saving this image by Catherine Campbell which featured in "The Big Issue" a couple of months back

However i don't want to fork out a packet, i rather find the frames dusty and deserted, so i can pretty them up with a lick of paint.

Because i won't be diving into dumpsters anytime soon, i started my picture frame search on Etsy. Inevitably i quickly became sidetracked and found more gorgeous prints to frame.
