Bulk Buying

After hearing the rumours it turns out that Costco are opening their first store in Sydney next month. For the uninitiated they sell everything on the face of the earth in bulk from groceries, white goods, clothing to coffins, apparently it has to be seen to be believed.

I shall be waiting in the queue for a stickybeak and no doubt come home with some bulk bought goods. A surplus of fruit would indeed be the perfect excuse to make some jam and fill those jars that have been sitting in the cupboard for the last six months bought for that very purpose. Or I may find myself preserving some excess lemons, both worthy and fruitful pursuits (I apologise for that terrible pun). Though perhaps I'll end up with a trolley full of bulk toilet paper, coffee and too many lollies for my own good.

Sleep and other past times

I’ve been celebrating Easter with the abandonment of the ‘heavyweights’ of Camp Hope. Chocolate Easter bunnies are trembling in my wake. Yum.

I’ve also been getting my teeth stuck into some writing. I was assigned an article on the benefits of chucking creative all-nighters. Truth be told I’m a wimp. I’m firmly in of the school of sleep. I’ve never deprived myself of sleep to study or indulge in wild throes of creativity. So it was a bit of a challenge to get excited about the article, but I’ve rounded the corner on it and have found a rather tasty angle. Which is handy as it’s due for editorial review on Thursday and I don’t want to lose a night’s sleep over it!

I’ve also been anxiously waiting by the front door for the postie, as I’ve been emptying my purse with some gusto. I’ve bought my duffel for the trip and a trigger point kit. I think that I might be regretting my enthusiasm for the trigger point kit once I actually roll around with it – ouch, ouch, ouch! Though I can quite easily justify both purchases, my new nail polish on the other hand, is slightly harder to justify.

Mish has jumped on the petrochemical free bandwagon and has been spruinking the wonders of natural beauty (which I totally support). However there are limited products available in Australia, so mish bought a bunch of stuff from The Spirit Lounge and convinced me I should too (her sneaky way of getting me to chip in on shipping!) So I bought some Scotch nail polish.

Working in the health industry means that I can’t wear nail polish, as it’s potentially unhygienic. So slathering my nails in the heavenly Velvet Kilt will be a wonderful way of celebrating my year sans work. That's a suitable justification right?

My Mother

In the summer ooo I love her
She's like no other
She's my Mother

My Mum is a hair's breath away from cutting her birthday cake and I have yet to get her a birthday present. In the past no matter how much thought and effort, I always inadvertently gifted her something that I had been lusting after. The old self serving present.

A small patch below my right ear lobe is red raw, as I've been scratching my head all afternoon, trying to find something to give her. This is the best that I could come up with:

Carrot

girl mug with finch

Russian Girl Matryoshka Magnet

OCTOPUS- Vintage blue suitcase with hand printed Octopus

Clock created from a recycled JVC Turntable

Neon Summer Shawl

Unfortunately, after reviewing the list, I think I want them all. For. Myself. Ugh this is a pickle, I just want to eat cake.

Things and things

SUBMISSION: Mr Hau’s tofu @tagbento LOVES Things Organized Neatly!

This was one of my early TON posts, but it’s one of my favorites.

I used to work in a dressmaking department. I was never celebrated for cutting straight lines, in fact I was rubbish at it and always sneakily added an extra 20cm to each costumer’s request to make up for my lack of scissor skills.

When not acting as a renegade sales assistant behind the counter, I took pleasure in keeping the rolls of fabric tightly wrapped and evenly spaced on the shelves. Needless to say this was a fruitless task as chaos reigned as soon as the costumers came into the store each day.

So I find these pictures all rather pleasing to the eye.

Svpply the answers

The effortlessly creative Diana of Miss Moss is guest blogging on A Cup of Jo this week and has posted about Svpply - heavens and stars oh my! It's addictive!

Bread Shoes

I now have ELO's "Evil Woman" playing in my head, me thinks svpply will be a rather dangerous influence on my bank balance.

Petrol pennies

I started a new job a few weeks ago which has been lovely, unfortunately the time it takes to drive there I can listen to:

Sufjan Steven's "Impossible Soul" (26 minutes) + Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" (5:55minutes) + Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" (14:59) + The Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps" (4 minutes) = some wicked sing-a-longs and a rather hefty petrol bill by the of the end week.

While I do like driving out of suburbia with it's high density living to paddocks of horses and cows - it would also be nice to spend my petrol pennies on these goodies:

Burnt by Bland

With the Boxing Day sales in full swing, I’ve attempted to be frugal by grabbing whatever I need for the upcoming odyssey – tents, rucksacks, sleeping mats etc. all with more features than a cosmetic surgeons catalogue.

However I made the unfortunate mistake of riffling through “adventure clothing”. Ugh my eyes have been burnt by the blandness.

I know after six months of camping across Iran, Pakistan, India and China I’m going to look haggard and careworn. But I can’t help but yearn for beehive hairdos and impractically pretty dresses.

Craftastic!

I'm a reluctant shopper.

Easily dsitracted by book shops and cafes, I lack the stamina of seasoned shoppers. So I'm without the basic skills to negogiate wayward shopping trolleys, packs of tweens on the prowl and pensioners armed with walking sticks.

Paired with a rather limited budget, means that this year's christmas presents are rather uninspired.

How about getting crafty? This would mean avoiding the shops and saving cash. However I think that Alicia Paulson's (of Posie Gets Cozy) puupy dog could create something a million times nicer than i ever could. The last time I gifted someone a scarf that I had spent 3 months knitting, they used it as a lap rug for their cat.

So the safest bet is Book Depository and after a flurrly of book buying I'm almost ready for christmas!

Given that I highly doubt that my siblings are telling the truth about reading this blog, here is some things I bought:

It's only a small coincidence that I've been wanting to read these books too...
