chop chop

My hair is getting the chop tomorrow.

It shall be my last visit to a hairdresser for almost a year (unless it suddenly strikes my fancy in Nepal, or if I get gum in my hair....which unfortunately happened with some frequency when I was younger, my curls would be propelled with masses of crackling static force and snatch & grab to jumpers, other people's faces, their lip gloss, glass windows, carpet, pets etc etc thus inevitably reel in sticky clumps of gum..)

I'm thinking volume and shape, is the way to go for my haircut. Something that looks effortlessly chic - without any effort.

Yes, I realise that this is an unattainable desire. Essentially since I'll be camping for many months - I can't imagine what my curls will reel in.

Trigger point

This picture is an uncanny replication of my physio session yesterday.

My legs awkwardly thrown in the air, bottom exposed and a look of pain + helplessness on my face, as my physio (a muscle bound, ex-rugby player) did trigger pint massage on my right gluts. Ouch.

I have a pile of stretching and strengthening exercises to do, but a return to running is looking likely for the weekend ahead. Booyah!

The 80s

Roller skates. check.

Animal masks. check.

Karate kid pose. check.

Joyous running. check.

Sensual egg cracking. check.

BMX bandits. check.

Yup, this is one kooky, yet compelling clip. You could waste hours analysing the meaning behind the sequences and 1980s motif employed - or you can just groove to the song.

I know what I'll be spending my time doing.

Vintage Derbyshire

Camping in Cromford

Plans for the camping trip are slowly falling into place. Horse riding, hot tea, river side walks, damper, easter eggs and kayaking are on the cards so far.

Magic mister please, magic

Toast

The name of the label should have set off warning bells in my mind. Toast - like it’s carbohydrate laden namesake - is tasty, addictive and probably not the healthiest option.

Navyoffwhite SCARF TWIST HAIRBAND

[Toast]

Example – this headscarf is divine, but it costs a cool £45. Ouch.

Their catalogue is like bread and butter pudding – saturated in so much deliciousness, it makes your heart ache but you can't help but scoff a second, third..and maybe fourth helping. Yum.

lovely lace

A Macgyver maneuver for sun protection? I'm almost tempted to sans 'slip slop slap' for the shadow effect.

The sunniest ideas

If I were Cockney I would be telling every man and his dog that the Currant Bun was hotter than hot today.

Unfortunately I’m not cockney, but I do wish I were in England as the sun (ie. “currant bun”) has beating down on Sydney this week. It’s making me cream crackered (“knackered”) and a little bit barmy hence the cockney rhyming slang in this post.

I’ve been trying to use ‘mind over matter’ techniques to glide through this spell of hot weather without whinging too much, so I’ve been obessed with finding a winter coat. Thoughts of tweed, wool and brass buttons have danced through my head. Modcloth is a minefield of lushy outerwear.

Unfortunately my meditations on overcoats has yet to chill my core temperature, though they have been tremendously successful in lightening my purse.

The next sensible option is to wallow in a lovely cool cave – the cinema.

I'm also peachy keen to catch Beginners and Tamara Drewe.

Ships at Night

My sister works random shifts and never has a set schedule. Sometimes it's like we're ships passing in the night, with days slipping by without seeing one another. So when we discovered that we both had the same day off work, we shared conspiring grins.

Like wannabe ladies who lunch, we set off for Bourke Street Bakery.

We didn't need to fill the air with words to enjoy each others company, we just sipped coffee and read. Mish is halfway through the wonderfully addictive "Born To Run" and I'm lapping up "Little Bunch of Madmen: Elements of global reporting".

Afterwards we ambled our way to That Vintage Shop for a stickybeak.

From there we went to May Lane - where the walls, gutters, garage doors and garbage bins are the canvas for the creative.

My observational skills are fairly lackluster at the best of times, I didn't realise to what extent, until I awoke this morning having slept the night on a textbook. My brother had kindly left me a book on photography in my bed as a surprise birthday present.

Ironically lesson one in photography is to open your eyes to the world around you.
